Global corporations present in Poland want to power their business with clean energy from RES. The Polish workshop at RE-Source Amsterdam gathered about a hundred attendees interested in the development of Corporate PPAs in Poland.

Corporate PPAs (also called cPPAs) are an increasingly popular formula of cooperation between renewable energy producers and offtakers, especially industrial. Dynamically increasing energy prices may also result in growing interest among Polish companies.

Both offtakers and producers of energy are interested in popularization of corporate renewable PPAs in Poland. The first group recognizes the increasing price competitiveness of electricity from RES, allowing them to optimize production costs.

Equally important is the image aspect, allowing them to publicly declare that their products have been made with respect for the natural environment, regardless of the location of the manufacturing plant. International corporations also want to make a contribution to the country’s energy transition with their demand for green electricity. It is about new generation capacity in renewables to be build based on their contracts in Poland.

 

RES investors are vividly interested in using the opportunity to secure funding for their projects based on concluded cPPAs. Conversations with representatives of energy offtakers indicated that the developers who can boast about significant achievements in this area in other European markets are among the most active in Poland.

The discussion on the opportunities and barriers for corporate PPAs in Poland, held on 3 October during the workshop at RE-Source Amsterdam, was a chance for attendees to learn about the specific features of our market.

The discussion was moderated by Counsel Piotr Ciołkowski, partner at CMS law firm’s Warsaw office.

Participants of the discussion included: Kornel Koronowski (Boryszew Group), Maciej Kowalski (Enefit), Szymon Kowalski (PGE Energia Odnawialna), Michał Laskowski (Vestas) and Grzegorz Skarżyński (representing PWEA’s Working Group on cPPAs).

The founding of RE-Source Poland Hub – a platform for offtakers and producers of green energy in Poland – was also announced in Amsterdam. Our workshop was attended by about one hundred guests.

The agenda of RE-Source Poland Conference, scheduled to take place on 9-10 December in Warsaw, will put a strong emphasis on educating green energy offtakers in the field of corporate PPAs.
