The three industry organizations called for the unleashing of the potential of onshore wind power. Today it is blocked by the distance (setback) requirements, hampering the development of new onshore wind projects.
The joint appeal was signed by:
- Renewable Energy Association
- Polish Wind Energy Association
- Polish Chamber of Commerce for Renewable and Distributed Energy
Wind power has all the features required to revive the competitive industry and to strengthen the Polish economy after the slowdown in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, due to:
- price competitiveness compared to other generation technologies
- highest share of domestic suppliers in the international supply chain
- possibility for remote control of wind farm operation
- more resilience to economic turbulences

Onshore wind projects under development, with a total capacity of ca. 3.2 GW, resulting from the 2018 and 2019 auctions, are already supporting the economy, providing 8,000-10,000 direct jobs and additional 4,000 jobs in linked sectors. They also generate a revenue stream from taxes paid by entrepreneurs.
Additional 12-14 GW in onshore wind capacity would amount to PLN 70-80 billion in investment and generate ca. 42,000 jobs around the sector, including approx. 11,000 in companies directly cooperating with the wind industry.
Such investment would be a strong development stimulus during the upcoming economic recession. They will also provide Poland with a better starting point for the development programme for offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea.
After defeating the coronavirus, the key to economic recovery will be access to affordable energy supplied to plants being restarted after several weeks of shutdown or limitation of production.
The appeal to abolish administrative barriers to the development of onshore wind power is also supported by local government organizations. Read more…
